English Language Learners

We offer a range of interventions for students that are not native English speakers. Using Wida Assessment Tool, we are able to evaluate and track the progress of English Language proficiency as well as apply supports in related areas.  Please contact Mrs. Annie Surina  for more information.

Disability Awareness

Welcoming children of all abilities requires ongoing education for our faculty as well as our students. through The Joseph Maley Foundationwe provide our students with grade level activities that promote positive social/emotional interactions. Some of these activities include Disabilities Awareness Week, We Step Up Leadership Retreat, Service Day, December to Remember, and Puppet Troupe.

Parent Comment

"There are several reasons why we have chosen to send our children to St. Monica for the past 14 years. Two of those reasons are the outstanding support our kids have received from the Resource Program. Our children have been allowed to move at a pace that is challenging yet achievable to them and they have succeeded. We also value the fact that the student body at St. Monica mirrors the world that we live in, with people of different races and economic backgrounds."

Mrs. Exline

Although I was born in the Philippine Islands and grew up in Florida, marriage brought me to Indianapolis. Now I can't fathom how I made it through a brutal Florida summer. I earned my BS in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from the University of South Florida. I recently completed my Master of Arts in English Language Learner Education. Glitter is my favorite color and I enjoy reading, camping, and making lists.

Mrs. Surina

This will be my fourth year as the ENL teacher here at SMS.  It has been my pleasure and honor to work with our English Language Learners in grades K - 8th.  I am a graduate of University of Indianapolis, Butler University, and Anderson University.  When I am not teaching, my husband and our two daughters enjoy traveling, watching classic movies, and having friends over for a cookout.  I'm so excited for a new school year to begin.  I want to welcome back all our returning students and I look forward to meeting our new friends.

 Mrs. Eagan

I have been teaching at St. Monica since 2010. This is my first year to be part of the support services team. My home parish is Holy Spirit. I graduated from Ball State University. Michael and I have two adult children and one granddog. Time away from school is spent cooking, traveling, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. St. Monica is my school family and I am blessed to be a part of it.

Ms. Price

I was born and raised in Indianapolis and attended St. Michael the Archangel for nine years. I am a graduate of Cardinal Ritter High School, Class of 2008. I have worked at CYO Camp Rancho Framasa since 2009. I have a bachelors degree from the IU School of Social Work at IUPUI and graduated in 2013. I am currently attending graduate school at the University of Notre Dame, go Irish! I then moved to Chicago to participate in a transition to teach program called the Chicago Teaching Fellows. I spent the past two years teaching special education classes to students grades K-5 in Chicago Public Schools. I am a true coffee addict, have a dog named Finn, enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and feel very blessed to be a member of the St. Monica Family.

Mrs. Blanco

I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in NYC. I just moved to Indiana 1 month ago to be closer to my husband's family. I am a licensed social worker and I received my masters degree from Lehman college. Before coming here, I worked with the NYC Department of Education for 16 years in different roles. My favorite thing to do with my 3 daughters is going to amusement parks. We love the thrill of the rides! We also enjoy reading, visiting book stores, and trying different foods (my husband not so much). I am very excited to continue my social work career at SMS. In this short time, I feel blessed to have met such wonderful people at SMS.

Mrs. Young

I am a native Hoosier!  I grew up in the small town of Monrovia, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University...a long time ago!  My husband and I have three great kids, two who attend Cardinal Ritter High School and one in her final year here at St. Monica.  We love to spend our time together, usually at sporting events, but also at an occasional musical or play.  To my family's dismay, I am a huge Nascar fan and spend lots of time watching races on the weekend!  This is my seventh school year working at St. Monica in Support Services.  My life has been richly blessed by the relationships that I have made during these past seven years and I am looking forward to an amazing school year!
