First grade emphasizes academic excellence and Catholic spirituality. first grade service project

Catholic Identity consists of: Weekly Masses, study of the seasons of the church, prayer in class, and service projects

St. Monica takes pride in that we teach to the child and not to the test. We go above and beyond teaching the state standards. The first grade program has a heavy emphasizes on phonics, reading, math, technology, social studies and science.

Teachers and classroom assistants work one-on-one with children on a daily basis. During the four quarters of first grade your child will;

  • Attend Mass each week
  • Establish routines and procedures within school environment to build responsibility and self-confidence

Meet our 1st Grade Teachers

Miss Osburn - Thanks for visiting!

     I was born and raised on the south side of Indianapolis. I attended St. Barnabas, Roncalli High School and recently graduated from Marian University in May of 2014. You could say Catholic education holds a special place in my heart. :) I am so blessed to have my first teaching job at St. Monica. The staff and students are so welcoming and helpful. I have really enjoyed getting to know the community here.
     In my free time, I enjoy working out, reading, shopping and spending time with my friends and family, especially my two nieces and two nephews.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Mrs. Christenberry

I was born and raised in the Chicago area.  I received my BA from Purdue Calumet and my Masters in Reading Education from Dominican University (also located in the Chicago area.) This is my 4th year teaching at SMS, but my 10 year teaching for the Archdiocese. I am married with two children that also attend St. Monica. For fun, I enjoy decorating and redecorating my home, I love binge-watching Netflix programs with my husband, and I love doing any kind of extra-curricular experience with my kids and husband.
