Deacon John McShea

I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania  as the second oldest of eight siblings with six sisters and one brother.  I attended Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary School through eighth grade and went to Central Catholic High School.  I attended the Community College of Allegheny County and received my Bachelor’s in Business from Indiana Wesleyan University.  Regina and I married in 1980.  We have three grown children Melissa, Patrick, and Kaitlynn.  Our family went through the Order of Christian Initiation for Children and our children were baptized on Easter Vigil in 2000.  St Monica has been our faith home ever since.  Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) was a significant step in my journey; our group of twelve faith-filled men bonded and stayed together for several years after we hosted CRHP for the next team.  I attended Cursillo and served in Kairos Prison Ministry for several years.

I was called to the Deaconate in 2012.  There was a year of discernment and four years of Formation run by Saint Meinrad School of Theology in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  Our class of twenty-one Permanent Deacons was Ordained on June 24th, 2017.

I consider myself more of a mystic than theologian so you may hear more subjective experiences rather than dogma in my reflections.  A Deacon’s faith life is focused on the Word, and the Cup. I find them both to be bottomless sources of God’s love for us.
