Encuentro/Encountering Christ in Lent
posted on Feb 16, 2017
A Lenten Invitation from Fr. Todd:
This Lenten season I am asking our parish to participate in the V Encuentro/Encounter that is being offered by the Archdiocese and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. They have a website with more information found here: http://vencuentro.org,
You will notice that many of the goals and objectives have to do with welcoming Hispanic and Latino Catholics in being missionary disciples and witnesses to God’s love. However, as I reviewed the goals and objectives of this process, I couldn’t help but notice they are universal goals that are important for every Christian person. So, we have made some minor adaptions to the materials so that anybody in the Church could participate in this process. I believe the goals of this process will help us gain some confidence in:
1) Our mission to evangelize,
2) Our common call to be disciples of Jesus Christ, and
3) Our unity in Christ.
We will be meeting in small groups on Wednesday evenings in Lent to discuss five
themes inspired by Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel. The themes are:
- Called to a loving Encounter with Jesus in the Church
- With Words and Actions: Do it!
- Walking together with Jesus
- Bearing Fruits of New Life
- Celebrating the Joy of Being Missionary Disciples
It is my hope that this process will create a way to help us listen to each other, strengthen our sense of a community, and empower us to evangelize. God has been good to us and we must proclaim and share the goodness of God’s love and peace to all we meet!
Please join us for these evenings of prayer, fellowship, and joy in the Gospel!
God Bless, Fr. Todd
